Sarazanmai is a show full of surprises. I mean, just looking at the concept art in the thumbnail, you’d think Keppi the Kappa would just be a cute little guy, full of fun and surprises, RIGHT?
WRONG, so wrong, so so so wrong wrong wrong. I made these cute cupcakes BEFORE I saw episode one, and thoroughly loved and enjoyed them. And then I actually sat down to watch the first episode…the minute Keppi opened his eyes, I actually mini-screamed from shock and horror because his creepy bloodshot eyes spooked me so badly!
The good news, though, is that when Keppi has his eyes closed, he is cute, which means that he makes for a great cupcake decoration! The lines of his face are pretty simple, in that there are relatively few movements you need to make, and you don’t need that many tips to recreate his beak or eyes—it’s only the hair that requires anything special.
In order to get tips for the beak and eyes, you’ll need to take a plastic bag and reinforce one corner with packing tape. Then, you simply cut out semi-circles from the tip to get a circular opening. I used a leaf tip for the hair to create that unique 3D effect and the triangular look, but you can certainly use a circle tip and just pipe triangles on if you don’t want to buy the proper piping tip.
The overall effect is very cute; make these for your friends and family, especially if you like to watch Sarazanmai with friends! I’m loving the show myself—it feels like a cross between Mawaru Penguindrum and Yurikuma Arashi, and I’m not mad about it. Comment below and let me know what you think!

Golden Yellow food dye
Black food dye
Leaf Green dye
2 ziplock baggies
1 piping bag
