Ok guys. Let’s be real. Leo and Nej from Kekkai Sensen make the best burger eating buddies ever. Honestly, if you watched episode 6 of Kekkai Sensen and your heart wasn’t warmed by the adorableness of these two, you have no soul/ love for burgers. In case you aren’t sure what I’m referring to, let me start you off with a single image:
This restaurant, called Jack Rockets, is where Leo goes to get amazing burgers. However, this restaurant is restricted to humans only, which forces this little guy, Nej, to get his burgers in other ways.
Leo decides to step in and by burgers for Nej, so that he doesn’t get ripped off by others who seek to take advantage of the little guy. They start eating their burgers together, and life is good.
So, as a tribute to their amazing friendship, I decided to make the Jack Rocket Cheese Burger, based off the Johnny Rocket burger.
The Ingredients
For Special Sauce:
1/2 cup mayo
2 tbs ketchup
2 tbs dijon mustard
2 tbs white vinegar
few drops of Sriracha or other hot sauce
1 tbs finely chopped onion
For Burger:
1 pound ground beef, 80% meat, 20% fat (makes 3 burgers)
cheese slices
sliced tomato
sliced onion
lettuce
buns
Making de Burger
First things first, throw all the special sauce ingredients together and stir it up. Set aside.
Next, slice up tomatoes and onions and set aside.
Then, take out your ground beef and knead the meat until it becomes sticky. The goal here is to mix the fat and the meat thoroughly together, to encourage all over juiciness in the burger. Divide into thirds.
Form your patties, keeping them thinner in the middle and a lot bigger than you think they need to be. They will shrink up in the pan.
Place a frying pan over med-high heat and allow the pan to heat up. Place patties on, and then leave them to cook, about 4 minutes for the first side, and 3-5 minutes on the second side, depending on how done you want it to be.
When you are happy that the burger is done, place cheese on the top and allow to melt into the patty, about 30 seconds. Then, begin assembling your burgers.
In the anime, it only looks as though there is lettuce on the burger, but in a real Johnny Rocket burger, they include slices of tomato and onion.
And now it’s done! For a final touch, wrap your burgers in some tissue paper and stick on a Jack Rocket logo.
If you want the plain logo to print out, feel free to screenshot this bad boy and print it out. I tried to attach it as a png but it didn’t work. Gomen!:
Hope you can try this recipe out! Like this post if you love Leo and Nej as much as I do. Or if you like burgers. Or if you like anime…Hahaha 🙂 Feel free to leave a comment with any questions or, you know comments! As always, I am always for suggestions on what to make next. Have a great day/night!
